CORRECT THROW Turn sideways Point to target Step with opposite foot Rotate body and throw Follow through by flicking wrist Flicking wrist will spin ball to make a spiral

RUNNING WITH BALL TUCK THE BALL –Protects from defense –Run faster when tucked –Less chance of dropping or fumbling the ball

Line of Scrimmage Line where every play starts Offense/Defense on opposite sides Ball starts on the line of scrimmage

QUARTERBACK (QB) QB says “Hike” to start the play Takes 3 steps back before stepping to throw (DROP STEP) Throws the ball to the wide receiver (WR) Stands behind where the ball is placed

WIDE RECEIVER (WR) Runs routes and catches passes from QB Starts out to the side of the QB Uses fakes to get to open space

ROUTES Patterns that WR runs to get open. Use fakes before changing direction. Don’t always run same route. QB and WR should know the route before the play starts.

CROSS Also called Down and Across WR runs about 5 steps makes a left or right turn. After turning left or right, WR continues running towards open space. QB throws a lead pass so WR can catch while running.

BUTTON HOOK Called button hook because pattern looks like a hook. WR runs about 5 steps then turns to QB. When ball is thrown, run to it. Fake before turning around.

ZIG-ZAG Pattern of this route is a ZIG-ZAG WR runs three steps, changes direction, runs another three steps, changes direction again, and runs to catch the ball. QB waits for WR to zig-zag before throwing a lead pass. Start zig-zag in different directions

FADE Also called “Over the Shoulder” WR runs forward and looks over shoulder for the pass. QB throws the ball so that it is ahead of the WR. The ball should go over the shoulder of the WR so they can catch it while running.

RULES NO FLAG GUARDING 1 QB SNEAK or HAND-OFF 7 MISSISSIPPI BEFORE RUSHING QB 4 Tries or “DOWNS” to score GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP! Rock Paper Scissor if you don’t agree. INCLUDE EVERYONE! Everyone must be QB at least once.`
