General Information/Quick Facts Nevada got it’s name from the Spanish language meaning “snow-covered” referring to the snow-caps of the Sierra Nevada mountains. The Capital is Carson City. The Date of Statehood is October 31, 1864 It’s population is 2,600,167 people (35 th most populous state).
