4 What is “class?” Class = a way to describe how much money or power a person has in society.

5 Lens #1: Class = Money This is how we usually think about class INCOME – the amount of money you make per year or month WEALTH –property you own –Examples: Houses, Cars, Boats, Planes, Stocks/Investments, Businesses, Land

6 Classes when class = money* Upper Class –High income + a lot of wealth Middle Class – Average income + average wealth –Average income in the US: $50,000 a year Lower Class –Low income + little or no wealth
