Larry Page Larry Page was born as Lawrence Page on March 26, 1973 in East Lansing, Michigan. His parents are Carl Page and Gloria Page. Both his parents were computer experts so his future had already been determined. Page would go to school to study engineering and computer science to follow in the foot steps of his parents.

Education Page’s Father was a pioneer in computer science and artificial intelligence so Page had to live up to high expectations. Page studied at the University of Michigan and earned his first degree in engineering. He furthered his education at the University of Stanford studying computer engineering. It was there where he met his friend and co-founder of Google Sergey Brin.

Larry Page & Sergey Brin Page and Brin created Google while doing a research project together. They created a search engine that listed results based on the popularity of a website, after concluding that the most popular pages would also be the most useful. They named this search engine Google. Thus, Google was born.

How Google Got Its Name Page and Brin had created this new search engine and it now needed a unique name. The two thought of a name and decided to call it Google. They named it after the mathematical term “Googol” which refers to the No. 1 followed by 100 zeros. This name would reflect their mission to organize the immense amount of information available on the web.

Google Page and Brin raised $1 million from family, friends, and other investors before they launched the company in 1998. Since its creation Google has become the most popular search engine ever on the web. Since 2013, Google has is responsible for nearly 6 billion searches per day. The company has been in competition with it rival “Yahoo” since its creation.

Page Becomes a Billionaire Google held its initial public offering in August of 2004 making Page and Brin Billionaires. In September of 2013, Page was ranked #13 on Forbes list of the top 400 richest people in America. A month later in October he was ranked #17 on the Forbes’ Most Powerful People list. Currently serving as the company’s CEO, he is one of the richest men in America.

YouTube YouTube is the leading source for streaming videos on the web. Its content comes mostly from user submitted videos but it does have some copyrighted videos. YouTube really blew up when it got Google became interested in its company. YouTube’s founders, Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim, knew that this was an opportunity that could not be surpassed.

Google Partners with YouTube In 2006, Google bought out YouTube for a ravishing 1.65 Billion in stock. This was a big deal that would put Google on top of its competitors, including Yahoo. YouTube is still to this day the most popular website for streaming video and Google uses a lot of these videos for advertising. To top things off, Google gains $3.6 billion a year from YouTube.
