2 Roman Culture. Each province was led by a governor which was appointed by Rome. ●Romans were influence by the countries they conquered. ●conquered countries were influenced by the Romans also.

3 Language. -Latin became the international common language. - trade - trials - laws - official acts

4 Religion. -polytheist (more than 1 god) -made sacrifices to gain favour of the gods -would integrate foreign gods into their religion. - Athena - Mithras - Isis

5 Pantheon ●Temple built for the 12 planetary gods ●Built by the Emperor Hadrian (118-126 AD) ●Opens up onto a rotunda and lighted by an Oculus in the centre of the dome ●Still used today as a Church.

6 ●Poor peasants were still Romans and could vote so the Emperor needed them on his side. To be popular he provided food and entertainment. (bread and circuses)

7 Roman Bathhouses. (Thermae) -public baths supplied by the aqueducts. -popular form of entertainment -featured libraries, gyms, gardens, and shops -were decorated with mosaics.

8 Baths of Caracalla. ●could hold 1,600 bathers ●25 ha

9 Roman Coliseum. ●Amphitheatre ●holds 50 000 people ●completed in 80 AD ●gladiators and animal fights as well as executions took place here. ●50 M’s high facade.

10 Naumachia ●Ancient Romans would recreate historical and current Naval battles in specially designed stadiums and in waterproofed amphitheatres.
