The Tabularium was the official office for records in ancient Rome A large part of the archives in the Tabularium pertaining to the nearby temple of Saturn Many city officials also lived in it

The Tabularium was built around 78 BC It was ordered into creation by Quintus Lutatius Catulus, one of the consuls at the time The building was created as part of a public works project to redo the Capitoline hill after the fire of 83 BC

The Tabularium was located in the Roman forum on the Capitoline hill on the south-east slope It is positioned near the temple of Saturn Also above it on the hill was the temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus

Today the Tabularium no longer exists, but instead it is now the Palazzo Senatorio It was built right on top of the Tabularium Before that in 46 AD, the Tabularium was restored by emperor Claudius
