Where is Rome located? Near the center of the Italian peninsula Separated from the rest of Europe by a high mountain range called the Alps

What are the major land features? Tiber river – provided water and transportation routes Apennines – mountain range that stretches more than 850 miles Surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea, Tyrrhenian Sea, and Ionian Sea, Adriatic Sea

What is the climate in Rome? Mediterranean climate – mild winters and warm, dry summers

How did Rome’s Geography help it grow? Less rugged mountains which allowed Rome to unite Rome had several large plains making farming easier Natural harbors that helped support trade
