4 Why was slavery abolished? L.O. To evaluate the main causes of the abolition of the slave trade in the British Empire. By the end of this lesson... All of us will be able to describe the different reasons for the abolition of the slave trade in Britain. (4B-4A) Even better if you can explain how two of these factors could lead to the abolition of the slave trade. 5 WHY WOULD BRITAIN ABOLISH SLAVERY? In 1807 the British government became the first major world power to abolish the trade of slaves. In 1833 Parliament went further and completely abolished slavery throughout the Empire.
