Purpose: Present Jesus as King and Messiah Matt. 1:1; 2:2; 27:11 To the Jews - Written by Matthew (Gift of God) Levi Jews were looking for a military-like Messiah Matthew contains 130 Old Testament references Central verse: Ch. 5:17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.”
