Float Equipment Specification June API Standardization Conference

Update Meeting held at OXY in Houston – May – Split out all testing categories Pressure, Duration, Rate, Temperature – Define acceptance criteria for duration testing Maintain pressure below valve – no leakage – Defined calibration requirements Pressure, rate, temperature, time

Duration Categories Category Cumulative* Flow Duration hours D88 (-0 / +15 min) D1212 (-0 / +15 min) D2424 (-0 / +15 min) D3636 (-0 / +15 min) * Cumulative flow duration does not require continuous flow through the test equipment. For example, a 36 hour test may be conducted over several days.

Auto-Fill Equipment Category Reverse Flow Duration (Hrs) D82 (-0 / +15 min) D124 (-0 / +15 min) D248 (-0 / +15 min) D3612 (-0 / +15 min)

Flow Rate Category Flow Rate (bbl/min) R66 (-0 / +0.5 bbl/min) R1010 (-0 / +0.5 bbl/min) R2020 (-0 / +0.5 bbl/min) The minimum flow rate of 6 bbl/min is only for use on float equipment sizes 5 ½” and smaller. Larger sized equipment may be tested using either 10 or 20 bbl/min for the duration of the flow test.

Pressure Testing Categories CategoryMaximum pressure kPa (psi) P1.510 300 (1 500) P320 700 (3 000) P534 500 (5 000) P1010000 psi

Temperature CategoryTemperature °F T200200 T300300 T400400 T500500

Example Category D24 R20 P5 T300

Discussion - 1 Separation of flow rate, pressure, duration and temperature into separate categories Do categories make sense and are they what were expected ? Is the nomenclature acceptable or do we need another way to refer to the categories ?

Discussion - 2 Pressure Testing timing Reduced the time required to increase the pressure in 500 psi increments How long do we hold the final pressure test ? What is considered a successful test ?

Discussion - 3 How to describe that it may not be necessary test all float equipment but may use “type testing” for some sizes. Need some statement in the body of the document to allow for component testing Statement must still require full scale testing of representative equipment to prevent qualification of full line of equipment based only on component testing.

Discussion – 3 (cont.) Do we monogram to size of float equipment Not all sizes would be monogrammed ? i.e. 30” equipment Full testing required to monogram ?

Discussion - 4 NAF TESTING

Future Plans Two additional meetings in Houston before year end Hope to have document ready by Winter meeting (stretch goal)
