Advanced Air Bag System (AABS)

Nissan advanced systems Dual-stage inflation Seat belt sensors Occupant classification system.
4
Dual-Stage Inflation Dual-stage air bags are deployed based on signals gathered from various sensors located on the vehicle. The inflation timing of the second inflator will vary based on the severity of the impact. This helps reduce the risk of injury from air bag deployment.
5
Seat Belt Sensors Sensors in each front seat belt detect whether the seat belt is in use. Seat belt use, other air bag system sensors, and the severity of the impact determine whether the air bag will inflate.
6
Occupant Classification System The occupant classification system determines whether there is an occupant or a child restraint seat in the front-passenger seat to determine front air bag deployment force or deployment condition in certain frontal collisions. Sensors monitor the weight of the front-seat passenger. If the front-passenger seat is occupied by a small adult, child, or child restraint seat, the air bag is deactivated and the warning light illuminates on the instrument panel. If the seat is occupied by an adult, the air bag is operational and the warning light does not illuminate.
