4 What can help?  All over the country, there have been efforts to change this prevalent issue in underrepresented communities

5 L I.S. for Law at UF  L I.S. for Law at UF: Law professionals inspiring students for law school at the University of Florida  Purpose: Increase Awareness and enrollment of minority students in law school.  Mission: To let more predominately underrepresented students learn about the law school admission process and law profession, while strengthening their credentials for law school.

6 L I.S. for Law at UF Overview:  The mentor program allows students to interact with students in law school and people in the law profession so they can have a one-on-one interaction with the mentor that best suits their needs. The overall goal of the program is to help more students decide if they really are interested in the law field and increase enrollment.

7 What has been done These are pictures from the opening ceremony where we admitted 17 new students from a pool of over 60 into the mentoring program. All of the students met the core requirements and exceeded the expectations.

8 Programs and events We have traveled to the LSAC conference in Atlanta, Georgia Practice LSAT test with one on one help from a Princeton Review instructor

9 Programs and events Tour of Levin College of Law Participated in numerous programs with Law school organizations

10 Programs and events Tour of University of Miami Law with mock class room presentation and Upcoming: FAMU law school tour and a spring break college tour of school in the North Carolina area along with LSAT prep each month

11 What are student requirements? Each student is required to write an essay about their interest in the law field. The chosen students must meet with their mentor two (2) recorded times a month to make sure that their questions are answered in a timely manner. They also must do some LSAT practice work to increase their chances for law school admission. They must have one law school visit per year They must annually complete at least one trial court visit and one oral argument

12 Mentor Requirements There is a small time commitment of two documented meetings per month, one (1) may be by phone Mentors are expected to answer students questions about the profession and the law school admission process to the best of their ability

13 Alternatives Even though the time commitment to be a mentor may be an issue, you can still help L I.S. for Law at UF reach their goal Mentors and firms can also be sponsors for the program

14 Annual Sponsorships Bronze Level –Under $200 –The donor will receive a certificate of appreciation Gold Level –$200 to $500 dollars –The donor will receive a certificate and recognition during the closing ceremony

15 Annual Sponsorships Platinum level –Over $ 500 dollars –Donor receives Bronze and Gold benefits and recognition on the website and will be an official sponsor of the program
