2 BHD CURRENT INITIATIVES  Impact of Health Reform on BHD  Contract with University of Maryland  Internal workgroup with MH, SA DD, Medicaid  Primary Care and Behavioral Health Integration  Partnership with the Community Health Resources Commission and Mid-Atlantic Association to improve BH services in FQHC’s

3 INITIATIVES contd…  Eliminating Disparities in Behavioral Health  Convene a steering committee to implement an action plan to review data, training, and policies  Co-Occurring Supervisors Academy  13 month in depth training for clinicians in the screening, assessment, treatment and support of adults with co-occurring mental illness, substance use disorders, and/or cognitive disorders

5 GAMBLING SERVICES Solicitation for prevalence study, awareness and prevention Integrate treatment gambling into the current system of care. Training on best practices for the behavioral health field Develop self-identified list of providers Tie into existing hot-line(s)

6 DELEGATE HAMMEN WORKGROUP Input from stakeholders on “ideal system” Impact of health reform on addiction services Analysis of how other state financing systems are structured Summary of previous work in Maryland regarding integration and co-occurring Schedule summer meetings

7 PARITY Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act Key dates: October 2008 and April 5, 2010 Prohibits group health plans that currently offer coverage for MH/SU from providing those benefits in a more restrictive was than other medical and surgical procedures covered by the plan www.ahpnet.com
