1 Greek and Latin Root Words Viv Mort/ Mor QUIZ on GEN root and VIV, MORT, and MOR root words – Thursday, August 21st HOMEWORK: Write a story using a minimum of 6 of your new vocabulary words. Be sure your story makes sense and uses each of the words correctly. HW due Wednesday, August 20th

2 VIV Root Words 1. Survive - to live through Example: The hiker survived the avalanche by digging a small breathing hole in the snow. 2. Revive - to bring back to life Example: Doctors use various modern techniques to revive patients whose hearts have stopped. 3. Vivid - l ifelike Example: The memory of the carnival was still vivid in Sarah’s mind months later. 4. Vivacious - lively in temper or spirit/ full of life

3 MORT/MOR Root Words 5. Mortal - will eventually die Example: Even though there are many Elvis Presley impersonators, he was still mortal. 6. Immortal - will never die Example: Zeus is the immortal king of the Greek gods. 7. Mortify - to embarrass someone so much that he or she wishes to die Example: You will be mortified if your biggest secret is announced all around school. 8. Morbid - sick or unhealthy (especially in thought or desire) Example: Toni’s father said her fascination with graveyards was morbid.
