PrepCom on 4 March 2005 decided to start data forwarding on a test basis PrepCom in November 2006 established policy for provision of data to tsunami warning organizations. Currently data is forwarded to four organizations. 26. 19 February 2008 Page 26IDC/SQT/ST A potential joint action with the European Union would create focal points of capacity building. Focal Point Locations (FPLs) supporting NDC capacity building provides State Parties with knowledge and assistance for building and/or improving their NDC capabilities and IMS Station Operation practices. After prototyping the design in Vienna, two FLPs will be installed, one in Africa and one in the Latin America – Caribbean region. Benefits: Increases both the number and geographic spread of NDCs Contributes to the sustainability of the IMS facilities. Allows those states that establish NDCs to receive and analyse the raw data in real time which will be highly valuable for improving: CTBT verification (the core function) Earthquake monitoring and volcano surveillance Tsunami warning capabilities Emergency preparedness and response from certain natural disasters Focal Point Locations
