Canto XXIX Virgil asks Dante why he continues to stare at the people below them, unlike in the other areas of hell where they just passed by. Dante continues to stare because he recognizes someone of his own blood, a distant cousin of his. Dante continues to the 10 th malebolge of the 8 th circle. In this bolge, Dante goes to the falsifiers and tells them that he will go back to the world of the living to spread their names if they speak back to him.

This includes the alchemists and counterfeiters. The punishment for these sinners include full body scabbing and constant itching of the scab wounds.

In the 8 th Circle From within the 8 th circle, Dante as said before, encounters the Falsifiers in 10 th and final malebolge. Dante describes the area as dark, with hardly any light shown through. Dante describes the men as too weak to even lift their bodies, while some manage to manuever. The bodies of the sinners are place atop one another and the men continue to crawl on the ground across one another scratching their scabs.
