God grant me the serenity to accept things I cannot change, courage to change things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.” I pray God I may be given the wisdom and the prudence to do my duty in the true spirit of this great people. I am their servant and can succeed only as they sustain and guide me by their confidence and their counsel. We ask that you grant our president the will to act courageously but cautiously when confronted with danger and to act prudently but deliberately when challenged by adversity. 1 2 3

Disturb us, Lord, when We are too well pleased with ourselves, When our dreams have come true Because we have dreamed too little, When we arrived safely Because we sailed too close to the shore. God save us all from wives who are angels in the streets, saints in the church, and devils at home let us thank God for the spiritual rewards He has granted for all forms of valiant and faithful service 4 5 6
3
Shine through me and be so in me that every soul I come in contact with may feel Thy presence in my soul Grant, I beseech Thee, faithful and obedient hearts, willingly to submit themselves to the obedience of Thy word and commandments, that we altogether being thankful unto Thee for Thy benefitts received, may laud and magnify Thy Holy Name Some days, although we cannot pray, a prayer utters itself. So, a woman will lift her head from the sieve of her hands and stare at the minims sung by a tree, a sudden gift. 7 8 9
4
Hear my voice and grant insight and strength so that we may always respond to hatred with love, to injustice with total dedication to justice, to need with the sharing of self, to war with peace. 10
