2
Bentonite clays ▢ Rocks formed from altered volcanic ashes. ▢ Bentonite clays are rich in smectite minerals.
3
Applications ▢ ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION Na-enriched clays: adsorption of radioactive ions from water (Sr 2+ ); Organomodified clays: adsorption of toxic metals (Pb 2+, Cd 2+, Ni 2+ ), radioactive ions (TcO 4 - ), azo dyes; simultaneous adsorption of organic and inorganic pollutants Pillared clays: catalytic degradation of phenol, toluene, and azo dyes; ▢ ELECTROCHEMICAL SENSORS Organomodified and pillared clays: toluene, phenol detection. ▢ GEOTEXTILE COMPOSITE Geosynthetic clay liners. ▢ POROUS NANOCOMPOSITES ▢ ENZYMES IMMOBILIZATION Na-enriched, organomodified and pillared clays: invertaze immobilization.

Environmental protection - adsorption Active carbons– recommended from US EPA for textile wastewater treatment. Vulcan and Kemika Used two commercially active carbons: Vulcan and Kemika AO10AY 99RB 5 2.0 HDTMA-B → more efficient for adsorption acid dyes than selected active carbons!!!
5
Environmental protection - catalysis ▢ CWPO of tartrazine at 25 °C – the influence of Fe content ▢ CWPO of tartrazine on AlFe10 PILC – the influence of temperature
6
Electrochemical sensors ▢ phenol oxidation ▢ toluene oxidation ▢ tartrazine reduction ▢ nitrite ions oxidation
