MUSCLES OF THE NECK primarily concerned with moving head and shoulder girdle sternocleidomastoid flex, rotation scalenes flex, rotation, elevation of ribs 1-2

use your latissimus dorsi muscle to adduct your arm use your deltoid muscle to abduct your arm use your trapezius muscle to elevate your shoulder use your pectoralis major by pressing your hands together in front of your chest

THREE groups those that cause movement at the shoulder joint those that cause movement at the elbow joint those that cause movements at the wrist and hand joints

THREE groups those that cause movement at the shoulder joint IN GENERAL these muscles originate on the axial skeleton or shoulder and insert on the humerus EXAMPLES: subscapularis, supraspinatus, infraspinatus, deltoid, etc…

THREE groups those that cause movement at the elbow joint IN GENERAL these muscles originate at the humerus and insert into the forearm bones ACTIONS: flex, extend, pronate, supinate SEE TABLE 15.5

THREE groups those that cause movements at the wrist and hand joints IN GENERAL originate on forearm muscles and insert on digits see table 15.6

Activity 4 demonstrate action of biceps brachii and triceps brachii
flex your wrist which muscles in Fig (pg 215) are at work? Flare your fingers to identify the tendons of the extensor digitorum on the back of you hand (Fig , pg 217)

Muscles of the Lower Limbs
Movement at the hip, knee and foot joints: we will identify these next week in the ADAM packet Unlike the shoulder (scapula), the hip does not have specialized group of muscles for stabilization
