Automatic Whiteboard Wiper Last Time – Presented project progress to classmates Received reviews and questions concerning our project This Time – Review comments and respond

Automatic Whiteboard Wiper How do you replace the erasers? – Simple clamp design Thumb screws, wing nut, or simple tool removal Remove from the side, not from the top

Automatic Whiteboard Wiper How Often do erasers need to be replaced? – Function of how much the board is used Possibly as often as standard erasers now

Automatic Whiteboard Wiper Should the ease of replacing the eraser be a criteria for design? – Ease of replacing eraser was taken into consideration Rolled into “complexity” criteria

Automatic Whiteboard Wiper Would a cleaning fluid system be implemented? – Group consideration was given to the addition of a cleaning fluid Decided it would best be suited as an add-on and not a feature

Automatic Whiteboard Wiper What type of motors would be used – Force/ torque tests will be conducted to determine the size requirements of the motor

Automatic Whiteboard Wiper How would you control the whiteboard wiper? What language would you use to code it? – Simple microcontroller – Possibly HC11/ HC12 microcontroller – Coding language is dependent on microcontroller

Automatic Whiteboard Wiper Why is this design better than the others? – Less complex – Low profile – Quadrant based – Thin eraser

Automatic Whiteboard Wiper Can the whiteboard wiper be retrofitted to chalkboards? – This design was intended for whiteboards Testing was done specifically for whiteboards Could potentially be adjusted for chalkboards, but we are not designing for that

Automatic Whiteboard Wiper Who is the target audience? – Anyone who wants to save time and effort erasing a whiteboard

Automatic Whiteboard Wiper How noisy is the system? – It will be designed to be as quiet as possible! Function of the size and type of the motor Desire minimum sound from the motor

Automatic Whiteboard Wiper What about a half based system instead of quadrant based system? – Quadrant based system is still effective Greater content control with quadrant based system

Automatic Whiteboard Wiper How fast will the system wipe the board? – Design for as fast or faster than hand wiping

Automatic Whiteboard Wiper How would the system be assembled to the board? – Equipment would be framed around existing board Eraser is on the system that attaches around the board, not onto System would require the removal of the marker tray, but this is the only intrusion

Automatic Whiteboard Wiper Have you considered any additional cleaning techniques? – Addition of a vibratory motion to the eraser may increase effectiveness of the system Microcontroller could be coded to “vibrate” eraser as it erases

Automatic Whiteboard Wiper How would you control the force applied normal to the board? – Screw type system to lift or lower system onto board

Automatic Whiteboard Wiper Impact of midterm presentation – Class basically understood whiteboard wiper concept – Questions mainly dealt with clarification of existing ideas

Automatic Whiteboard Wiper Next Time – Layout Drawings Layout or assembly drawings Drawings show how the individual parts or subsystems combine as a whole Encouraged to use IDEAS, AutoCAD, ProEngineering, and/ or SolidEdge
