2 Evaluation Evaluation of Tutoring Activities from the Point of View of International Tutors Information from Tutor Meetings, Reports/Study Journals Qualitative Analysis and Focus Groups in Meetings Tutoring Activities grouped into Items, as follows:

3 Items for Evaluation Contact before Arrival (Establishing initial contact with incoming student) Pick Up Service (Getting the keys from dormitories/manager, welcoming incoming student at airport/train/bus station) Accommodation (Hosting the student in the Otokylä dormitories or other places of residence) Police Station (Helping with the registration procedure) Bank Account (Assisting in opening a bank account) Shopping Facilities (Providing information about shopping facilties) Health Care Facilities (Providing information about health care) School Tour (Showing the facilities of the School of Engineering) Oulu Tour (Providing information about Oulu and its surroundings)

4 Items for Evaluation Visit to International Office (Accompanying student to first visit to international coordinator to deal with administrative matters, at a later point and before departure students also may visit to give feedback and ask for advice etc., incl. Orientation Programme of Oulu UAS) Academic Counselling (Listening, answering questions, dealing with study/ project work matters etc., guiding the student in intercultural issues, timetables etc.) Free Time Activities (Being a guide and possibly friend to the incoming student, arranging events and trips etc.) Contact after Departure (Being a friend, networking, visiting the student etc.)

5 Items for Evaluation Course Assignments (Description, Learning Aims, Tutoring Activities, Report, Study Journal, Credits, Certificate) Workload & Compensation (Apropriatness of workload, compensation are currently movie tickets for tutoring activities, 1 for tutoring activities and 1/pick up service and accommodation) Cooperation with International Coordinator (Quality of communication, flow of Information, possibility for evaluation, tutor cafe meetings, mailing list etc.) Other Items (Suggestions made by international tutor, student, academic or administrative staff)

6 Evaluation Evaluation of Tutoring Activities or Items according to Evaluation Matrix: Axis: Importance (x-axis) and Satisfaction (y-axis) of Tutoring Activity Quadrant: Tutoring Activities to be (a) monitored & maintained – or – (b) reviewed & improved

7 MONITOR Items in the top left quadrant are of lower importance. They should be monitored to ensure that we focus on the most important issues for students. MAINTAIN Items in the top right quadrant are important to students and perform well. REVIEW Items in the bottom left quadrant are of lower importance. They should be reviewed to ensure that we focus on the most important issues for students. IMPROVE Items in the bottom right quadrant are important, but do not perform as well and should be improved.
