Coordinate Plane
2
The Basics All points on the coordinate plane have an address that is in the format of (x,y) The x-coordinate represents the horizontal location of the point The y-coordinate represents the vertical location of the point The origin is the represented by the coordinates (0,0)
3
Quadrants There are 4 quadrants on the coordinate plane. Quadrant I Quadrant IV Quadrant II Quadrant III ORIGIN (0,0) X-AXIS Y-AXIS
4
Locating Points To find the location of any point on the coordinate plane: 1. Look at the x-coordinate 2. Starting at the origin, go left or right the number of lines the x-coordinate represents 3. From that point, count up or down the number of lines the y-coordinate represents 4. Label the point
5
Remember This Let’s think of some ways to remember that we need to go left/right before we go up/down Let’s think of some ways to remember that a negative coordinate goes left/down and positive coordinate goes right/up
