Today's Surf Conditions

Important Announcement Due to the current and predicted surf conditions for Saturday/Sunday off Mooloolaba Beach and to ensure the safety of athletes we will not be swimming in the surf. The contingency swim course will be used which is a 1 Lap (1500m) anti-clockwise swim in the Mooloolah River around Minyama Island. This will involve two transitions (T1 & T2): Swim/Bike – Charles Clark Park Bike/Run – Existing on Esplanade

Check-in procedures Proceed to T2 for set up Running Shoes outside the box Athletes Lounge (located at T1) Bike measuring Uniform check (name, country, logos, ITU logo, zippers). Wearing other uniform during the race = DSQ! Body marking check (both arms, both legs) Timing chip distribution (1 for the left ankle ) Swim cap distribution

Check-in procedures – T1 Transition Area Bike check: handlebars, helmet & wheels (non authorized UCI wheels rule) Helmet check- Don’t leave your helmet fastened in the transition The athlete who does not comply with this rule will receive a time penalty of 15 seconds in TA1. helmet on the bike Spare, named wheels to Athletes Lounge Adding any equipment to the bike, approval must be obtained from the RR by the end of the athletes’ briefing

Pre-start Procedure Athlete Introduction: 10 minutes before start – adjacent to Athletes Lounge. Select your position and stay behind the line! Athlete blocking more than one place will receive a DSQ.

Start Procedure Athletes in position: Beach Start (low tide) – Men Ankle deep water (high tide) - Women The start can be given any time after the Starter announces ”On your mark” Air horn blast The race starts Athletes not moving forward at the start will receive a time penalty of 15 seconds in TA1.

False Start Procedures False start Example 1: Several horn blasts Kayaks/Race Marshalls in front of you Everyone goes back to their previous position. False start Example 2: If only one or two start before the horn and everyone else starts with the horn, the athlete(s) who false started will receive a time penalty of 15 seconds in TA1. During penalty athlete can not take any equipment!

Run Penalty Box The penalty box is for infringements in: TA1, bike and TA2 eg: Mount before mount line, dismount after dismount line, discharge or store your equipment outside your designated area, rack the bike outside your own space etc (Transition will be videotaped for infringements) Location: Approx 300m before the Transition Area Information: White board to show race numbers (Athletes need to read the board – coaches are advised to check and inform their athletes) Procedure: 15 second time penalty served on any lap of the run If you don’t stop: DSQ

Run Penalty Box Rule interpretation Mount after the mount line: there must be contact of the athlete’s foot with the floor after the mount line. If this contact doesn’t occur the action is considered as mount the bike before the mount line. Dismount before the dismount line: there must be contact of the athlete’s foot with the floor before the dismount line. If this contact doesn’t occur the action is considered as dismount the bike after the dismount line.

Run Penalty Box Rule interpretation continued Discharge or store your equipment inside your designated area: Leaving the equipment (swim cap, goggles, helmet, etc.) in the designated box. Rack the bike inside your own space: In case of individual bike rack, the bike must be racked with the front wheel to the designated rack.

ITU Primes There will be three primes per Men’s and Women’s race: 1. After the exit of swim (arch as you exit the water) 2. At the end of lap 2 of the bike. (11.9km) 3. At the end of lap 6 of the bike. (34.7km) (The bike prime line will be at the dismount line) An athlete must finish the race. There is no limit to the number of primes an athlete can win in a race. The amount of each prime: US$ 500 (will be paid by electronic transfer)

Post-race Procedures “Mixed Zone” - immediately after finish 1, 2, 3 with host broadcaster first. Medal Presentation – protocol – within 5 minutes of the 1 st finisher Please follow the ambush marketing rules. Dress “up” Prize money is to be electronically transferred to athletes in the following week. You will be contacted the following week to arrange this.

Ambush Marketing Rules Ambush marketing is defined as: “Deliberately using the opportunity of live television and media photographers to acquire additional exposure for your sponsor product, apparel or brand.” The consequence for this behavior is: 1. The athlete will immediately forfeit their prize money for that event, as well as primes, if any; 2. If the athlete is part of the “gold group” this status will be revoked for the remainder of the year.

Post-race Procedures Anti-Doping Control Photo ID is needed for every athlete to have ready for Doping Control

Coaches’ areas Accreditation All coaches have to collect accreditation to be able to enter the venue. Only Coaches who have been registered from their NF into the ITU online system are entitled to an accreditation. Additional sport-specific coaches areas At the intersection of Buderim Ave and Alex Parade (on the hill) on the median strip Accreditated Coaches will have access to: Athlete’s Lounge Adjacent to Swim start area Next to the penalty box
