Multiple-Choice Questions that Test Writing Use the tips and examples in the following charts to help you answer multiple-choice questions that test writing skills on the OSSLT.

Success Criteria for Reading a Graphic Text I chose the option that looks and sounds right and makes sense. I selected only one option (never select two answers to any multiple choice question on the literacy test). I did not leave a multiple-choice question blank. (You have a 1 in 4 chance of getting it right – so guess!)

TipsExamples 1.Read option a. 1.Then ask yourself the following questions: Does the sentence look right? Does the sentence sound right? Does the sentence make sense? 2.Repeat this process for the other three options. 4. Choose the option that looks and sounds right and makes sense. Choose the sentence that is written correctly. a Studies have shown that the enormous weight of student backpacks. b Everything in one place. c Searching a print textbook is very hard.* d Students can bookmark a page, they can make notes.

TipsExamples 1.Determine the main idea of the paragraph. 2.Find the sentences with details that support the main idea. 3.Find the sentence with information that does not relate to the main idea. Choose the sentence that does not belong in the following paragraph. (1) By the end of May lunches in the cafeteria increased. (2) It's estimated that 65% of students are buying them and loving them. (3) Officials believe this number will grow next year. (4) Sales of tickets to the prom are the same as last year. (5) The new cafeteria menu is seen as a success.
