NASA SLI 2010 Mulberry Grove High School Flight Readiness Review Measurement of UVB Radiation Absorption by Cloth Material at Different Altitudes and Measurement of Vehicle Motor Tube/Case Temperatures During Launch Mulberry Grove SLI Team

NASA SLI 2010 Mulberry Grove High School Outline Motor Choice Rocket flight stability in static margin diagram Thrust to weight motor selection in flight stimulation Rail exit velocity Parachute sizes and decent rates Test plans and procedures Full scale flight test Dual deployment avionics test Ejection charge amount test Payload integration feasibility

NASA SLI 2010 Mulberry Grove High School Motor Choice Engine selected  AeroTech  K700W Diameter- 54 mm Length- 56.8 cm Burn time- 3.5 sec Total impulse - 2261Ns

NASA SLI 2010 Mulberry Grove High School Rocket Flight Stability in Static Margin Diagram Center of Gravity68” from the nose cone Center of Pressure86.8” from the nose cone

NASA SLI 2010 Mulberry Grove High School Thrust to Weight Motor Selection in Flight Stimulation Ratio of 6.8 to 1

NASA SLI 2010 Mulberry Grove High School Rail Exit Velocity 68ft/s

NASA SLI 2010 Mulberry Grove High School Parachute Sizes and Decent Rates Drogue Parachute Size: 24” Descent Rate:66 ft/s (simulation) 62 ft/s (test flight) Main Parachute Size:9’ Decent Rate:20ft/s (simulation) 26 ft/sec (test flight)

NASA SLI 2010 Mulberry Grove High School Test Plans and Procedures Temperature Experiment Static Testing Four sensors checked for consistency Battery longevity test Data recorded and download to computer Actual Testing Actual test on first full-scale flight

NASA SLI 2010 Mulberry Grove High School Temperature Test Data

NASA SLI 2010 Mulberry Grove High School UVB Experiment Static Testing Sensors tested and calibrated Sensor, CBL2, TI calculator combination tested Triggering to begin recording tested Data recording tested (limitation of 100 data points) Transfer of data tested No dynamic testing performed.

NASA SLI 2010 Mulberry Grove High School Small Scale Test Flight Flight Test Report

NASA SLI 2010 Mulberry Grove High School Full Scale Flight Test #1 February 28, 2010 Recovery Unsuccessful Anomalies during lift-off Flight Analysis Launch Pad Camera Hand-held Camera

NASA SLI 2010 Mulberry Grove High School Full Scale Flight Test #2 March 18, 2010 Recovery Successful Lift-off, flight, and recovery normal Flight Analysis Launch Pad Camera Hand-held Camera

NASA SLI 2010 Mulberry Grove High School Dual Deployment Avionics Test Altimeter Test Report

NASA SLI 2010 Mulberry Grove High School Ejection Charge Amount Test Black Powder Charge Test Report 2.7 g of black powder will be used. That amount was used in both full-scale flights.

NASA SLI 2010 Mulberry Grove High School Payload Integration Feasibility First full-scale test flight experienced anomalies at take-off. $600 in damage was the result. All UVB sensors were destroyed. Payload bay had structural failure. Payload was re-designed and sensors were placed in pvc pipe to protect them. End caps to couplers reinforced.

NASA SLI 2010 Mulberry Grove High School Payload Integration Feasibility

NASA SLI 2010 Mulberry Grove High School Conclusion Problems encountered during full-scale test flights have been mitigated. Rocket and payload are now ready for a full flight with payload.
