R. Lehmann, MD ASCRS 2008 Clinically Relevant Advantages in the Functional Performance of the AcrySof ® IQ IOL Robert P. Lehmann, MD, FACS Lehmann Eye Center, Nacogdoches, Texas Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas Financial Disclosure: Consultant for Alcon, Travel Honorarium

R. Lehmann, MD ASCRS 2008 AcrySof ® Natural IQ IOL Model SN60WF Design Properties Design Properties –Aspheric posterior surface  Designed to counteract the positive spherical aberration of an average cornea –AcrySof ® Natural IOL material –Foldable, single-piece platform –Monarch ® II IOL Delivery System –High refractive index (1.55)

R. Lehmann, MD ASCRS 2008 A prospective, randomized, multi-center, observer- and patient-masked study A prospective, randomized, multi-center, observer- and patient-masked study 75 subjects contralaterally implanted 75 subjects contralaterally implanted –Aspheric IOL: AcrySof ® Natural SN60WF (IQ IOL) –Spherical IOL: AcrySof ® SA60AT (Control IOL) Functional performance substudy Functional performance substudy –Contrast Sensitivity, n=45 subjects (FACT™, Mesopic Conditions @ 3 and 6 cd/m 2, with & without glare) (FACT™, Mesopic Conditions @ 3 and 6 cd/m 2, with & without glare) –Night Driving Simulator, n=44 subjects (Vision Sciences Research Corporation, San Ramon, CA) (Vision Sciences Research Corporation, San Ramon, CA) Data captured at a minimum of three months after 2 nd eye implant Data captured at a minimum of three months after 2 nd eye implant AcrySof IQ Substudy Design

R. Lehmann, MD ASCRS 2008 Driving Simulator Night Driving Simulation Night Driving Simulation –Measured detection and identification distances  Detection= first sight of target  Identification= distinguish the target (what does the sign say, which direction is the pedestrian walking)  Series of targets –Road warning signs –Text signs –Pedestrian –Driving scenarios  Nighttime City (with streetlights)  Rural (with low beam headlights)  Simulated driving speeds –~35 mph for city scenes –~55 mph for rural scenes –Driving conditions  Glare  Haze (fog)  Normal Rural Scene City Scene

R. Lehmann, MD ASCRS 2008 Mean Intra-individual Differences in City Detection Distances, SN60WF vs SA60AT Minimum of 90 days following second eye implant N=44

R. Lehmann, MD ASCRS 2008 * Mean Intra-individual Differences in City Identification Distances, SN60WF vs SA60AT Minimum of 90 days following second eye implant

R. Lehmann, MD ASCRS 2008 Mean Intra-individual Differences in Rural Detection Distances, SN60WF vs SA60AT Minimum of 90 days following second eye implant * * *

R. Lehmann, MD ASCRS 2008 Mean Intra-individual Differences in Rural Identification Distances, SN60WF vs SA60AT Minimum of 90 days following second eye implant

R. Lehmann, MD ASCRS 2008 NDS Summary  Distance differences favoring the SN60WF IOL resulted in clinically relevant advantages in the amount of time to react to targets (>0.5 seconds) under certain conditions  City Detection:  Fog (Pedestrian*)  Glare (Pedestrian* )  City Identification:  Fog (Pedestrian*)  Glare (Text* & Pedestrian*)  Rural Detection:  Fog (Pedestrian & Warning*)  Glare (Text, Pedestrian*, & Warning*)  Normal (Pedestrian & Warning)  Rural Identification:  Fog (Warning*)  Glare (Warning*)  Normal (Warning*) *Statistically significant (p<0.05) in favor of SN60WF

R. Lehmann, MD ASCRS 2008 Conclusions  The AcrySof ® IQ IOL (SN60WF) demonstrated superior functional performance in contrast sensitivity and the night driving simulator compared to the control IOL  Statistically significant differences in mesopic mean contrast sensitivity at 3 & 6 cpd w/o glare (FACT)  Statistically significant mean distance differences in favor of the SN60WF IOL  Clinically relevant advantages in the amount of time to react to targets  May improve patient safety under low visibility conditions
