1 “Trains” Case Study
2
2 “Trains” - Architecture n Worldwide Facilities Management n Single Giant Focal point IT Operations Center – Control many individual systems operations – Manned 24x7 – Skilled Expertise n 22 WorldView client workstations n Single repository
3
3 Architecture - US Central Datacenter Florida rep Florida rep Backup rep Backup rep International IT resources
4
4 Workload Environment n Central MVS Systems – Own the schedule and direct work on NT and Unix n NT Servers (about 30) n Unix servers (initially 30 growing to >100)
5
5 ”Trains" - The Challenges n Aim 1: Provide focal point monitoring of all systems, network components, applications and databases n Aim 2: Provide the ability for complete management and control of Unix systems from NT n Aim 3: Provide focal point workload control from MVS of NT and Unix
6
6 ”Trains" - Considerations n No Unix skills to be required at central n Full control of systems must shift between any desired NT client n Resilience of the solution between primary and backup DSM/repository systems n Scalability, the ability to dynamically add and remove NT servers and Unix systems without major rework.
7
7 “Trains” Deployment n Primary and Backup TNG Repository at the Florida datacenter n DSMs deployed as required at remote Sites. Each DSM is connected to FL Rep n Enterprise Management as required on managed Servers. n Agent technology on Hosts/Servers managed by Site DSMs
8
8 Server Level Deployment n Agents on Hosts/Servers n DSM/s manage domains according to scale n Enterprise Management deployed on servers as required Server Site DSM Domain DSM Domain FL-Rep
9
9 “Trains” - The Solution n Aim 1: Provide management of whatever systems, network components, applications and databases the client requires... WorldView Interfaces Enterprise Management Disciplines Agent Technology Scaleable, Distributed Solution
10
10 “Trains” - The Solution n Aim 2: Provide the ability for complete management and control of Unix systems from NT... Unix Events may be managed and controlled from central NT locations Agent Technology on end-systems Distributed State Machines & WorldView instrument the enterprise
11
11 “Trains” - The Solution n Aim 3: Provide focal point workload control from MVS of NT and Unix… n Workload Agents on NT and Unix can be driven from MVS (as well as NT and Unix) n MVS remote NT/Unix job status reported back to CA7 on MVS n All workload status available on NT workstation
12
12 “Trains” - Future Enhancements n Expand to >100 Unix boxes n Implement USD/AMO
