2 . A culturally appropriate methodology for minority communities to identify, select, & involve researchers capable of engaging communities to conduct Patient-Centered Outcomes Research (PCOR). It is an opportunity for minority communities to be involved in research as never before by selecting researchers who are sensitive to the needs of the minority communities. Patient Engagement Clusters ©are formed in the community. There will be a strong educational component to ensure that the community is knowledgeable of research. It’s universal, replicable, scalable, for any community, population, & group. Knowledge Exchange and Engagement Program K E E P Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Touring Exhibit 2

Researchers who are in a position and interested to engage minority communities Researchers who can help to answer the questions that are most important to minority patients/caregivers/stakeholders. Minority communities are involved in every step of the research from partnering in the design of the research to the dissemination and sharing of the results Poor/Negative relationship between medical centers and community are identified, addressed, and removed. Minority communities and researches maintain relationships to continuously engage and design of questions for more research Knowledge Exchange and Engagement Program K E E P Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Touring Exhibit 3

4 The S.T.A.R. Initiative Knowledge Exchange and Engagement Program ( KEEP) Touring Exhibit is a year-long healthcare/research engagement & educational exhibit that will provide the community with opportunities to obtain information and resources and to engage in a supportive environment in their places of worship, libraries, hospitals and health centers. The “Touring Exhibit” will continue to increase the participation rates of African- Americans, communities of color, and all underserved communities in patient-centered outcomes research for better health outcomes and shared decision-making. The “Touring Exhibit” will assist in providing additional opportunities to learn about PCOR and increase their capabilities, skill sets to participate and collaborate with academic partners. Our goal for the community to become empowered to participate in research as partners. The National Network of Libraries of Medicine Borrowed Exhibit The Borrowed Exhibit will provide consumer health information. It has three panels wide, each 4 feet tall The entire table top opens to a size 6' x 2' x 4' and works best on 8' tables The S.T.A.R. Initiative Display The S.T.A.R. will provide information about patient-centered outcomes research and the benefits of participation for patients. It will provide an opportunity to researchers and community members to learn together. We will show our work, its, mission, and how we are becoming empowered to partner with researchers and promote collaboration and co- learning for research design, conduct and dissemination of results. 6
