The EU-Ecolabel The EU-Ecolabel is a voluntary scheme, which means that producers, importers and retailers can choose to apply for the label for their products. The life cycle of a product begins with: extraction – the mining or cultivation of the raw materials, such as cotton (for textiles) or wood (for paper products), it continues with manufacturing and packaging distribution Use, and finally “end of life” stage, when the product is disposed of or recycled. When developing EU Ecolabel criteria for products, the focus is on the stages where the product has the highest environmental impact, and this differs from product to product. The Blue Angel The Blue Angel is the first and most well-known eco-label worldwide. Since 1978 it has set the standard for eco-friendly products and services selected by an independent jury in line with defined criteria. The Blue Angel is awarded to companies as kind of a reward for their commitment to environmental protection. Companies use it to professionally promote their eco- friendly products in the market. The Blue Angel is an ecological beacon showing the consumer the way to the ecologically superior product and promotes environmentally conscious consumption. Lillehammer miljø Environment Lillehammer
