3 The Carrefours jeunesse-emploi  The mission: To Foster the personal, professional, social and economic autonomy of young adults between 16-35 years of age.  Employment centers provide free socio professional services to youth  Multitude of projects for youth  Projects meet the needs of youth in the community  Types of clientele: drop-outs, on social assistance, young parents, immigrants, visible minorities, anglophones  110 Carrefour's across Quebec.

4 Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge Shaping My Future My Way  Launched in April 2004 by the Prime Minister of Québec; for 3 years  Extended for 2 years in March 2007  Extended for 5 years 2009-2014  Coordinated by the Youth secretariat  Entrepreneurship Awareness & Promotions Officers  Multitude of Partners

5 Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge Shaping My Future My Way Why do we need a Government strategy  to develop en entrepreneurial culture  Changing economic landscape of Quebec  Youth needed to be trained  Gather partners of Québec’s entrepreneurship network  Strategy

6  The measure is based on three main axes:  Intensify the development of an entrepreneurial culture  Create a favourable environment amongst young entrepreneurs  Initiate youth to the realities of global entrepreneurship  38 million invested over five years to intensity the development of the entrepreneurial culture in Québec (ASEJ) Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge

11 Examples  National Entrepreneurship Day  4 th edition will be held on November 16th  Activities are being organized across Québec in partnership with many entrepreneurship partners and the education community  Get Entrepreneurial Ralley  Local, regional and national media coverage  Tatiana Londono. CONCRET ACTIONS

12 Entrepreneurship Awareness & Promotion Officers Context: Densely populated, ethnically and economically diverse neighbourhood just west of Montreal’s downtown core; Main actions: Meetings with teachers and principals to help create and stimulate entrepreneurial projects, Youth groups in a community setting (support) Motivating marginalized underprivileged youths trying to finish High School outside the school system Engaging youth in a regional business creation competition (Student Stock Exchange) – Project enables youth to showcase their unique talents and prove to themselves that they have what it takes to succeed and run a project from start to finish;

13 Entrepreneurship Awareness & Promotion Officers Concrete Actions:  Young Leadership group, age 14 to17, in a by youth/for youth approach to foster active citizenship involvement such as the creation of neighbourhood events for youths to be heard; Introducing role models to youth by organizing dynamic interactive events Engage youths and young adults to be savvy customers and active citizens (to buy is to vote approach) through workshops and participating to local, regional and provincial events;  Meet with young entrepreneurs who are developing a business or project idea.

18 Strategic position of Community Table Broker between community and government at all levels Influence on government policies and programs in dealing with community challenges Well-situated to enhance linguistic majority-minority relations with the Quebec government (including organizations funded by the Quebec government) by directly influencing programs and policy. Community Table Secretariat and 11 CEDEC offices form one entity, working together to achieve results for the betterment of Quebec’s English Linguistic Minority Community. 18

19 Role of the volunteer-driven Community Economic Development and Employability Committee (CEDEC) The CEDEC promotes and supports community economic development and entrepreneurship through a Community Capacity Building (CCB) process by Local Action Groups. The CEDEC facilitates discussion, and provides opportunities for community members and local action groups to realize a vision and develop their ideas. This includes building local capacity by encouraging and teaching people how to continue this participatory process themselves. The CEDEC provides strategic information and identifies appropriate resources to advance community plans. The CEDEC is sensitizing the community to opportunities through entrepreneurship. The CEDEC builds networks to share Information and develops partnerships to benefit the English- speaking community locally and throughout Quebec. The CEDEC motivates the community by recognizing and promoting community successes! The CEDEC mobilizes community, providing support to organize and gather around common goals. The CEDEC mentors community members (including our youth) by working with them to identify assets, challenges and opportunities in their communities. 19

20 Dynamic partnership with Secrétariat à la jeunesse and Réseau des carrefours jeunesse-emploi du Québec, (RCJEQ) Increased young English speakers’ access to information and activities happening on National Entrepreneurship Day. Community Table is a member of the RCJEQ’s National Planning Committee for National Entrepreneurship Day. National Entrepreneurship Day 20

21 National Entrepreneurship Day National Entrepreneurship DayNational Entrepreneurship Day, aimed at promoting entrepreneurial learning among youth, was celebrated throughout Quebec via videoconferencing technology. Partners in this event were: The Réseau des carrefours jeunesse-emploi du Québec Entrepreneurial Promotion and Awareness Agents (Défi de l'entrepreneuriat), Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport (GOAL Consultants), Community Table and CEDECs, and Community Learning Centres 250 Students from seven English High- Schools (four different School Boards) participated in National Entrepreneurship Day.
