SAMUEL DE CHAMPLAIN BY PAUL EICHLER

WHO I AM I was a French explorer, navigator, and geographer I was born in (1567 in France and died in 1635 in Quebec, Canada. I was called the Father of New France. I was known as one of the best cartographers. I watched the lives of native Americans and lived with them on and off. I was born in a small port town on the west coast of France. I was married but had no children. I was most likely born as a commoner but built a solid reputation as an explorer and navigator..

WHY I WAS IMPORTANT I founded Quebec, Canada. I mapped most of northeastern north America. I discovered Lake Champlain. I established the French colonies in the new world. I opened up north America to French trade, especially the fur trade. I made friends with the Huron and the Iroquois. I gave the first description of the Ottawa River. My father was a sea caption and taught me how to navigate.

WHAT IMPACT DID I HAVE I would make very accurate predictions about network lakes and other features of the area. I was the first explorer to give an accurate and detailed discretion of the area of Plymouth Rock. I fought the first battle against the Iroquois creating bad relations for the next 100yrs. I influenced is still felt by current French Canadians. I made many many explorations and discovererys of northern New York. I was one of the first to write about Niagara Falls. I founded Quebec witch is the first permanent settlement in New France. I as the key explorer of the Great Lakes region and the Northern American coast.

WHEN AND WHERE I MADE MY JOURNEY 1599 I sailed to the Spanish colonies. 1599 to 1601 I sailed to the West Indies, Mexico, and Panama. 1603 I sailed to Canada and explored the St. Lawrence River. 1604 I sailed along New England coast. 1608 I returned to Canada to establish a fur-trading post. 1610 to 1624 I made seven trips to France to get supplies and help for Quebec. 1628 the English took over Quebec and took me to England. I returned to France in 1629. 1633 I sailed back to Quebec when they took Quebec back from the English and lived there till my death in 1635.

HOW I TRAVELED I sailed on a French trapping ship. My boats name was the Canada 51. Many od my men died. It was a lot of work to try and keep my boat afloat and on track. Dried food that wont rot. There were a lot of storms. We played games and plays to entertain us. We got sick a few times.

UNKNOWN FACTS I was one of the first to propose construction of the Panama canal. I hoped to find northwest passage through North America to Asia. I was in the French army as a young man. I was wounded twice in the leg by arrows during the battle with the Iroquois. No one knows where he was buried.
