2 Main Substation Components Transformers These devices step up or step down the incoming voltage of the substation. They are the most costly components of the transmission and distribution network. Circuit Breakers These devices protect the network from overloads. They also protect against lightning strikes. They are used to cut power to the network. Disconnects These devices ensure a visible break in an electric circuit and isolate equipment within the substation for maintenance. EHT NTERNATIONAL I

An LED will illuminate locally and the alarm code will be displayed on the iCOD panel if an alarm is present. Alarm levels:  Level I : Maintenance required in the medium term  Level II : Immediate maintenance is required the disconnect is not functional.

8 The optical positioning system has a precision of 1/5 of a degree, thus providing great flexibility for data analysis by function of the position. The controller knows the position of the arm at all times. It can detect a break or blockage of live parts or gears. Cams are NOT used to determine arm position, a combination of torque and position is used to determine the actual position of the arm throughout entire operation. 9 EHT NTERNATIONAL I Elimination of Auxiliary Cam Switches The optical positioning system, OPS, provides an accuracy in the DS arm position measurement that is impossible with traditional methods. Positions are now assigned within the software. Once the positions are established the configuration file can be copied to other iCODs operating DS of the same design.

11 EHT NTERNATIONAL I De-Icing During icing conditions the disconnect will attempt three time to break the ice. A built in delay allows time for the operator to get out of the way.

13 EHT NTERNATIONAL I DSV : Avantages of variable speed control A strategic solution for control and monitoring  Reduction of harmonics by 50% or more per manoeuvres.  Reduction of exposure of harmonics to transformers.  Reduction of exposure to arcs on contact fingers therefore reduced pitting of contacts.  Increased contact pressure on pantograph and semi pantograph designs.  Minimized motor stress due to fluid motor acceleration and deceleration.  An active system for the measurement and control of motor current, cycle by cycle, for optimal motor protection. Motor will never burn out as current is constantly being measured thus preventing overcurrent conditions.
