Volunteer Tutorial Field Marshall, Equipment Manager, Timekeeper and Scorekeeper

General Information Thank you for volunteering! Please report to the game table 15 minutes before game start. If you are running late notify your team manager. The Game Table is a neutral area – please do not cheer from the table. Introduce yourself to the referees. If you need any clarification or have questions please ask the referee at this time.

Field Marshall/Side Line Manager Please wear the yellow vest from the game day kit so that you are easily distinguishable to coaches, officials, and spectators. If volunteering at an away game check your coaches’ bag for an additional vest if none is in the game day box. Ensure that positive sportsmanship is displayed by players, coaches, and spectators. Ensure that field rules are enforced. No food on the track, no pets in stadium, proper seating areas used by spectators, no siblings playing too close to field. Equipment Manager Help move equipment from storage facility to field and back on game days. First team of the day brings equipment to field, last team of the day returns equipment in an orderly manner to the storage facility. Club Level Manager will contact you prior to the weekend to arrange a time for meeting at storage.

Equipment Manager Bring out a table and 3 or 4 chairs for the scoring area Set up tent with weights over scoring table Bring game day kit to game table Ensure that there are enough brand new balls for each game and for field perimeter. Set up flip scoreboard on scorers table Bring cooler with water for officials to scorers table (Remember to bring ice from home) Cones placed on field (see next slides for locations)

Timekeeper Timekeeper runs the official game clock. Check division rules (in game day box) for length of quarters and whether clock is running or stopped. Timer is in the game day box. Smart phone apps are also available for keeping time and highly recommended. Examples here. Examples here Timekeeper uses the horn to signal the end of periods. Horn should be placed on the table before game start. Timer informs scorekeeper of game time when goals are scored, penalties occur and when timeouts are called.

Timekeeper - Boys Timekeeper informs nearest official in a loud voice when one minute remains at the end of the 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd quarters, and when two minutes remain in the 4 th quarter. Timekeeper also keeps track of each players penalty time during boys games. (Officials to provide length of penalties.) Timekeeper counts down the last 10 seconds and shouts “RELEASE” when the penalty expires.

Timekeeper - Girls Timekeeper informs nearest official in a loud voice when two minutes remain at the end of each half and also counts down the last ten seconds.

Scorekeeper Keeps official score sheet for home games Works as a spotter for away games Score sheets and pens are in game day box Bring team roster with names, numbers and positions, or get a copy from the coach

Scorekeeper - Boys Enter the goal information: Time of goal (from timekeeper) # of scoring player in 1st box # of assisting player in 2nd box An assist is a direct pass by a player to a teammate who then scores without having to dodge or evade an opponent. Scorekeeper - Boys A save is recorded any time a ball is stopped or deflected by the goalie, and had it not been touched, the shot would have entered the goal When a save occurs, enter a tally in the save area for the team making the save
