3 Licensure 15+ states have introduced APRN legislation – Lack of consistency in titles – Regulation of advance practice is different in each state Compliance with the grandfathering clause NCSBN Certification and Accreditation Guidelines April 25, 2012 APRN Roundtable Chicago, Illinois

4 Accreditation CCNE Standards Committee – Reviewing standards for compliance with the Model Requires separate courses for 3 P’s since 2005 – Reviewing compliance with APRN certificate programs – Anticipated implementation of revisions in 2013 – CCNE will continue to accredit all master’s programs – 120 DNP Programs; 99 in planning stages April 25, 2012 APRN Roundtable Chicago, Illinois

5 Accreditation COA – revising standards for practice doctorates (2012) 3 P’s required as of 2015 – 112 accredited nurse anesthesia programs plus 37 post- master’s completion degree offerings – 7 entry-level and 9 post-master’s degree completion programs award doctoral degrees ACNM – all schools require the 3 P’s – Difficulty implementing model since not all programs are in schools of nursing April 25, 2012 APRN Roundtable Chicago, Illinois

7 Certification NCC – The Just Ask Campaign – American Milestones – Continuing Competency Initiative – Total registration for all NCC exams in 2011 was 11,128 In 2011, 348 graduates took NNP exam and 461 took the WHNP exam April 25, 2012 APRN Roundtable Chicago, Illinois

8 Certification PNCB – CPNP – Primary Care: 2012 Role Delineation study Examinees stable over last 5 years with 850/year – CPNP – Acute Care: 2010 Role Delineation study Since 2004, number of examinees has doubled 230 tested in 2011 – Launched Pediatric Primary Care Mental Health Specialist Certification in December 2011 April 25, 2012 APRN Roundtable Chicago, Illinois

9 Primary Health Care The ultimate goal of primary health care is better health for all. WHO has identified five key elements to achieving that goal: reducing exclusion and social disparities in health (universal coverage reforms); organizing health services around people's needs and expectations (service delivery reforms); integrating health into all sectors (public policy reforms); pursuing collaborative models of policy dialogue (leadership reforms); and increasing stakeholder participation.
