1 Potential Edits to API 6AV1 API SC6 Roundtable Discussion 2/21/2012

2 Editorial Changes Align language with Annex I of 6A to the extent possible. Current document requires fail-safe closed actuator (per definition of actuator). Re-organize the document to be more chronological. Annex I viscosity is specified incorrectly. (I.4.3 step 3) Change 100 Pa s to 100 s. 6AV1 is correct. Remove SPPE-2 (withdrawn document). Suggest that there is no actual monogram to be applied to the product so Annex A needs a critical review and adjustment to actual conditions.

3 Procedural Changes Clarify whether the test is of the valve or valve/actuator combination. Currently believe the document allows any actuator to be applied later. Consider withdrawing API 6A Annex I so that 6AV1 accurately drives the validation of the valves. Clarify testing of Class II to allow testing a specific valve size. Do not require testing the 2-1/16 valve also. Consider allowing scaling of larger sizes and pressures from the smaller size tested.

4 New Content Flow rates do not scale with valve sizes. Suggest to consider higher rates for larger sizes as a Class III test. Consider a higher level test (Class III) such as an extended endurance type test that could be selected. This might include wider particle size distribution sand or different fluid viscosity, etc. with possible limitations on scaling (but some still allowed). Bi-Directional valves are only tested from one direction. Change to test from both directions. Consider removing Class I testing (low value to the industry). In last 8 years, SWRI has only done 2 Class I tests. All others are Class II. Consider limiting scaling. Concern that the test does not accurately represent actual installation conditions. Insure that scaling of Class I or Class II tests are properly represented in 6AV1.
