3 New AID (Activity Issue Description) FTN 006: M2M Demand Activity/Project Description: –Monitor M2M demand relative to its impact on NANP geographic and non- geographic resources. Provide periodic updates on standard committee’s technical reports and interim or long term recommendations for M2M addressing. Consider whether the industry number administration guidelines should be modified or updated to accommodate M2M addressing solutions. Activity/Project Relevance To FoN Mission & Scope: –By monitoring M2M demand and possible technical resolutions, the impact on NANP resources can be assessed and the time frame for transition to alternate addressing options evaluated. Recommendations could be developed on M2M addressing solutions that will maximize the life of the NANP and minimize limitations on geographic numbering resources. 3

4 New AID (Activity Issue Description) FTN 006: M2M Demand (cont.) Suggested Plan Of Action/Activities: –Monitor M2M demand and evaluate its impact on NANP numbering resources by: –Measuring consumption of non-geographic resources –Identifying standards activities focused on long term solutions for M2M addressing –Assessing impact of M2M addressing technical options on NANP resources. –Recommending changes to industry numbering guidelines as necessary –Recommending technical solutions which will avoid NANP exhaust and maximize availability of existing numbering resources. Other Entity(s) Where This Is/Has Been Presented or Discussed: –FCC Technological Advisory Council (TAC) –ATIS M2M Focus Group Committees –ITU-T Study Group 2 and M2M Focus Group 4

5 New AID (Activity Issue Description) FTN 007: PSTN to IP Transition Activity/Project Description: –Monitor regulatory and industry activities associated with the evolution of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) to an Internet Protocol (IP) based network infrastructure. Assess the impacts of this transition on numbering resources and numbering administration. Activity/Project Relevance To FoN Mission & Scope: –By monitoring industry assessments or regulatory mandates associated with this transition, necessary modifications to number administration processes and practices could be evaluated and associated recommendations developed for NANC and industry consideration. Suggested Plan Of Action/Activities: –Monitor regulatory and industry groups to: –Evaluate recommendations and/or regulatory mandates –Assess necessary modifications to number administration to accommodate the transition –Plan to contribute to the development of transition plan(s) for numbering resources, as needed per NANC direction Other Entity(s) Where This Is/Has Been Presented or Discussed: –FCC Technological Advisory Council (TAC) –ITU-T Study Group 2 5

Future of Numbering WG Mission To explore changes to the environment, including new and future technologies, the impact of market place and/or regulatory changes and innovations on telephone numbering. Scope: The Working Group will investigate new telephone numbering assignment approaches and future telephone number assignment requirements. The Working Group will identify common criteria and gather data to identify trends and their impact upon numbering resources. The Working Group, if necessary, will analyze opportunities to determine the feasibility and benefit of each and report its findings to the NANC. The Working Group will also analyze various topics that may be given to it from time to time by the NANC and/or FCC. 10
