2. Introduction  The maturing American environment was exemplified through the exquisite art that showed unexplored wilderness and the jobs of everyday people living in the time.  American nationalism was represented by the grandeur and beauty hidden away in the American frontier.

15. Conclusion  Thus the formation of the American identity was illustrated through the evolution of artistic expression in the early 1800s.  The American spirit was defined through the art that joined together the populous and presented the unknown wilderness of the American west.
