2 INDIRECT WATER USE Definition: When water is used in the process of making the product.

3 Water is used to grow, process, manufacture or transport everyday objects by, watering plants to grow, cool down cutting tools to cut items in the process of making them without making a fire. Also water is used to grow process, manufacture and transport by, used in the processing of plastic and other materials. Goods can be transported across the ocean, lakes or rivers, from one country to another.

4 PROCESS OF CHOCOLATE The coca bean sprout is watered and starts to grow. The sprout grows larger and larger into a cocoa bean tree. The cocoa bean shells are very big and hold the beans inside of them. Cocoa beans have a water footprint of 20,000 liters. Cocoa beans are made into paste. Ninety-seven percent of the water footprint of cocoa beans is made into the cocoa paste. A kilogram of cocoa beans is 800 grams of paste, so that the water footprint of cocoa paste is about 24,000 liters. The cocoa paste is separated into cocoa butter and powder. The cocoa paste is thickened into chocolate and gets harder, and is no longer paste anymore.
