Carbon Footprint Reduction
By Olivia Pattee
2
What is a carbon footprint?
How our activities effect the environment A measure of greenhouse gases we produce Typically measured in tons of CO2 Contributes to global warming and climate change Primary footprint: direct emissions Secondary footprint: indirect emissions
3
The average carbon footprint of one person in the US is approximately 27 tons of CO2
The average of one person in the world is approximately 5.5 tons of CO2
4
Energy-Efficient Light bulbs
Easy way to help fight global warming and become energy-efficient Energy-efficient light bulbs are compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) Can be purchased in many hardware stores (Home Depot, Lowes, etc.) Can be used the way incandescent light bulbs are used
5
CFLs’ Impact 4x more efficient
Uses approximately 65% less energy than incandescent Last 10x as long Less expensive in the long run 1 CFL= ½ ton CO2 not in the atmosphere Provides a “warm, inviting light” instead of the harsh light like older fluorescents YouTube - Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs
