2. What is this? Measure of human demand on the Earth's ecosystem We can estimate: - how much of the Earth - or how many planet Earths it would take to support humanity if everybody lived a given lifestyle.

3. The world-average ecological footprint in 2007 was 2.7 global hectares per person. This is far too much!!

12. Estonian electricity Estonia produces electricity from oil shale 1 ton of oil shale gives 850 kWh of electricity The production of oil shale electricity leaves ash hills and pollutes air Estonia also has green electricity produced by wind and water

Observation weeks FIRST WEEK: we did our usual things… watched TVand listened to the radio used the computer as much as we liked left all appliances to stand-by mode left on the lights in the kitchen, etc. SECOND WEEK: we started saving electricity… we were more outside we didn’t watch so much TV used less computers disconnected appliances

16. Results FIRST WEEK the families total usage of electricity - 647 kWh SECOND WEEK the families total usage of electricity – 460 kWh We saved 187kW

19. Electricity saving in school 2 ordinary weeks and 2 saving weeks Within the ordinary weeks we spent 4705 kWh & 3607 kWh Within the saving weeks we spent 3769 kWh & 3500 kWh We saved about 1000 kWh of electricity

24. Monitoring of water usage in homes The principle of this study was : a) to get to know people's domestic water consumption b) To make them consume less We had two observation weeks

The usual week and saving week USUAL WEEK We used water as usual The main water- consuming appliances: - washing machine - coffee pot - kettle SAVING WEEK We tried to save as much as possible Suggestions: 1) If you wash your teeth don’t keep the water running! 2) Do not wash the dishes under running water!

26. Results THE USUAL WEEK The average of consuming: warm water-64,684 m³ cold water -61,425 m³. THE SAVING WEEK The average of consuming: warm water-63,924 m³ cold water -61,127 m³ Hot water - 0,76m³ Cold water - 0,298m³ SAVINGS 
