Digital Footprint and Online Safety With this emerging technology, we are online 24/7. Can we imagine a life without internet? BUT being online also means that we need to make sure that we are safe.

What does the term “digital footprint” mean to you?

Digital Footprint A digital footprint is your online presence. That basically means the track you leave behind after using the internet. People can also see what you do online, such as a Facebook status or a Tweet.

Are digital footprints ALL bad?? What are some pros and cons of your digital footprint?

Cons of your digital footprint -The internet has given predators an expanded means to find their prey -Children are highly at risk if they are not careful about being online -This increases your risk of identity theft -With data mining, your information is compiled and shared and there is always a way for people to access information about you -Everything you do leaves a digital footprint

Pros of your digital footprint -Digital footprints are actually really important because if a employer searches your name and sees nothing, they would think you’re not a digitally active person

What NOT to share online.. Are you being safe online? Realize that anyone can take your information or copy your pictures. Any type of person information can come back to haunt you in the future

Tips to follow -Never share personal information -Keep your privacy settings as high as possible -Respect the views of others -Think before you post!

Remember that the person behind the screen could be anyone! Maybe even a dog!
