OBJECTIVES Raise awareness of the rights of People with Intellectual Disabilities. Raise awareness of the collective strengths among families with a member with intellectual disability. INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES: FINDING COMMITMENT,STRENGHTEN AWARENESS

TARGET POPULATION Population’s characteristic 12 People with Intellectual Disabilities (adults) and their families. All of them living in low income areas: SAN CRISTOBAL SECTOR: Guacamayas neighborhood, la Victoria neighborhood, la Gloria neighborhood. INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES: FINDING COMMITMENT,STRENGHTEN AWARENESS

All of them are exparticipants of the Welfare and Social Department. At this moment they don’t have access to any service or centre. INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES: FINDING COMMITMENT,STRENGHTEN AWARENESS

Priority activities needed to achieve the objectives ACTIVITYOBJECTIVERESOURCES One (1) PLA WORKSHOP WITH MOTHERS AND PWID Promote disscussion about the power within themselves as a community - Human resources: (Family members of PWID, PWID, volunteer) - Stationary Two (2) PLA WORKSHOP WITH MOTHERS 1. Enhance recognition about the rigths of PWID. 2. Identify strategies that promote those rigths into the community itself - Human resources: (Family members of PWID, PWID, volunteer) - Stationary INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES: FINDING COMMITMENT,STRENGHTEN AWARENESS

ACTIVITYOBJECTIVERESOURCES 3. MEETING COMMUNITY MEMBERS Develop public awareness for PWID rights issues. - Human resources: (Family members of PWID, PWID, volunteer) - Stationary. - Cake and drinks. - Baloons. 4. MEETING WITH KEY LIDERS Exchange ideas about the importance of promoting support for PWID. - Human resources: (Family members of PWID, PWID, volunteer) - Stationary INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES: FINDING COMMITMENT,STRENGHTEN AWARENESS

OUTCOMES Families identified key persons interested in the disability issue: Neurologist from the La Victoria Hospital. Chief of the Rehabilitation Commitee of the Locality. Families identified leaders among themselves: Three (3) mothers of PWID. INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES: FINDING COMMITMENT,STRENGHTEN AWARENESS

Families defined and accomplished 2 activities into the community with PWID: 1. Social event with PWID, family members and community people. 2. Sport activities at the community centre with PWID, their families and 2 community leaders.

INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES: FINDING COMMITMENT,STRENGHTEN AWARENESS The results of these activities have been enthusiastic. Until now these mothers decided to continue breaking barreers inside their the comunnities. In future the next actions will point out to enlarge social an specially productive activities in which mothers, sons, and daugthers will be sharing toguether into their communities.
