7 sorek communicaton BASIC ASSUMPTION IN THE NARRATIVE APPROACH Free choice- One is responsible for his fate, he is the creator and the hero of his life story. The main question is not who am I, rather who I choose to be. Man has capabilities, resources, values, commitments, skills, to create a change in his life story. Difficulties, hardships, failures, are parts of social and personal perception. Narrow perception creates a problem. When the story teller hears other viewpoints, it may lead to change in his way of telling his story. (Epston,1999 & White)

8 sorek communicaton One creates a sequence/mosaic of stories – which organizes his life as meaningful experiences This collection of stories surround the dominant theme – which fulfills the self prophecy (Pygmalion effect) One can free himself from the dominant, narrow theme, by choosing a substitute alternative story, changing his identity One creates a sequence/mosaic of stories – which organizes his life as meaningful experiences This collection of stories surround the dominant theme – which fulfills the self prophecy (Pygmalion effect) One can free himself from the dominant, narrow theme, by choosing a substitute alternative story, changing his identity

9 sorek communicaton One of the most influential principles in effective communication is that by sharing this mosaic with others, the story teller is showing us his world through his personal perception.

10 sorek communicaton We, the healers, teachers, can use this perception, in order to assist the story teller in seeing that other view points are possible, leading him to accept different viewpoints.
