1 Quick Start Guide for operation
COCHRAN EMC-14 DIVE COMPUTER Quick Start Guide for operation Diving is a complex sport and many different situations may occur. Your Cochran EMC-14 is designed to compute and display data for any dive situation that you are likely to encounter.  This Quick Start Guide, however, covers normal conditions only;  please see the owner's manual for complete explanation of other operating modes. 2 There are three metal contacts on the front of the EMC-14 Dive Computer; moisten your finger and place it over contact #1 and contact #2 for a few seconds to POWER UP the Computer. Contact #1 Contact #3 Contact #2

3 All display segments are visible as part of the SELF-TEST.
Immediately after Power Up, the EMC-14 begins a SELF-TEST to insure that all systems are operating correctly. All display segments are visible as part of the SELF-TEST.

4 Altitude (2500 feet per bar) Surface Time since power-up
Immediately after the self-test, the EMC-14 enters the SURFACE MODE, and remains in this mode until it descends below 5 feet. Barometric Altitude (2500 feet per bar) No bars = 0 to 2500 ft. 2 bars = 5000 to 7500 ft. Air Temperature Surface Time since power-up Primary Screen If a dive is not initiated within one hour, the EMC-14 automatically powers down to conserve battery power.

5 Current CNS Oxygen Toxicity value Alternate Screen showing Time
When the EMC-14 is in the SURFACE MODE it will alternate between the Primary and Alternate screens ever 8 seconds. Battery Voltage Current CNS Oxygen Toxicity value Blend #1 Set Point Air = 21% Time of Day Alternate Screen showing Time On the Alternate Screen the Time of Day will alternate with the current OTU Oxygen Toxicity value ever two seconds.

6 When the EMC-14 is in the SURFACE MODE it will alternate between the Primary and Alternate screens ever 8 seconds. Battery Voltage Current CNS Oxygen Toxicity value Blend #1 Set Point Air = 21% Current OTU Oxygen Toxicity value Alternate Screen showing OTU If a dive is not initiated within one hour, the EMC-14 automatically powers down to conserve battery power.

7 If you have residual nitrogen, or if you have experienced an altitude change since the last dive, the SURFACE MODE displays additional information. Surface Time (Amount of time since last dive) Maximum Depth (of the last dive) Blend #1 oxygen set point Air Temperature Time to Fly (Hours before safely flying) Dive of “Day” (Repetitive Dive Number) Primary Screen showing Surface Time On the Primary Screen the Surface Time will alternate with the Bottom Time ever two seconds.

8 If you have residual nitrogen, or if you have experienced an altitude change since the last dive, the SURFACE MODE displays additional information. Bottom Time (Of time last dive) Maximum Depth (of the last dive) Blend #1 oxygen set point Air Temperature Time to Fly (Hours before safely flying) Dive of “Day” (Repetitive Dive Number) Primary Screen showing Bottom Time On the Primary Screen the Surface Time will alternate with the Bottom Time ever two seconds.

9 (Time you can stay at current depth without Decompression)
During a dive, the EMC-14 enters the DIVE MODE and the following information is displayed. Current Depth Ascent Rate (1 bar = fpm) Current PO2 Water Temperature Note NDC Legend Bottom Time (so far this dive) NDC Time Remain (Time you can stay at current depth without Decompression)

10 Current CNS Oxygen Toxicity value Alternate Screen showing OTU
During a dive, the EMC-14 will alternate between the Primary and Alternate screens ever 8 seconds. Maximum Depth (So far this dive) Current OTU Oxygen Toxicity value Current CNS Oxygen Toxicity value Battery Voltage Blend #1 Set Point Alternate Screen showing OTU On the Alternate Screen the Time of Day will alternate with the current OTU Oxygen Toxicity value ever two seconds.

11 Current CNS Oxygen Toxicity value Alternate Screen showing Time
During a dive, the EMC-14 will alternate between the Primary and Alternate screens ever 8 seconds. Maximum Depth (So far this dive) Current Time Current CNS Oxygen Toxicity value Battery Voltage Blend #1 Set Point Alternate Screen showing Time On the Alternate Screen the Time of Day will alternate with the current OTU Oxygen Toxicity value ever two seconds.

12 The WARNING LEGEND appears and flashes
A “TWO MINUTE WARNING” is issued when no-decompression time reaches 2 minutes The WARNING LEGEND appears and flashes The REMAIN TIME numbers flash WRONG SLIDE

13 Staying at the same depth, or going deeper after the 2 minute warning expires, will cause the EMC-14 to enter the DECOMPRESSION MODE. If you plan to perform decompression dives, we recommend that you have adequate training.

14 DECOMPRESSION MODE Divers should be familiar with the DECOMPRESSION MODE for the EMC-14 Dive Computer, even if they never intend to dive in a manner that will cause the computer to enter this mode. The DECOMPRESSION MODE is explained in the EMC-14 Tutorial presentation. IMPORTANT: Please refer to the instruction manual for detailed information on the operation of your COCHRAN EMC-14

15 HAPPY DIVING, HAVE FUN, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, BE SAFE!
