LUX * UNDERWATER FESTIVAL 2013 Welcome to the 2 nd edition of the ‘Underwater Festival’, to be held at LUX* Maldives from 15 to 21 April 2013. A wide selection of activities engages the attendees of the Festival during the week, ranging from underwater photo and video courses, on-the-beach themed film screenings, film editing coaching sessions and a wider highlight on freediving/apnea courses together with carefully choreographed Island Light experiences. An intense ensemble of water activities stretched over one week of lighter learning for keen divers, photography fanatics and water enthusiastic or just simply curious guests in search of a holiday with a difference. With a strong focus on underwater photography, the festival's attendees have the opportunity to join training sessions with the experts throughout the week!

THE EXPERTS Underwater photography, film and video-editing It’s a whole new approach to classic ‘underwater photography’ this year! UK-based photographer and BBC film director Neil Lucas and Britain's foremost underwater cameraman Michael Pitts are set to run daily introductory classes where guests will improve their photography skills and learn new underwater shooting techniques. The Festival also hosts one of the most established television documentary editors, Frank Spencer. Through to rough cut, music and sound, Frank enables the attendees to identify the right story or ideas out of the underwater shooting material collected. Among the subjects of the courses, the Festival will develop basic camera housing maintenance, lighting techniques fill and flood, shooting discipline and a sequence, using storyboards and creative editing.

The Festival highlights freediving and breath holding/apnea techniques. The attendees can also join freediving classes with the four-times world record holder Sara Campbell. Being one of only a handful of people in the world who can dive unassisted to depths over 100mt, Sara oversees the freediving courses focusing on the inner ‘sleeping dolphin’ of each attendee through simple and specific breathing techniques for relaxation and mind control. Breath-hold techniques combined with freediving ensure the outmost benefit to the participants on how to move efficiently and smoothly in the water in an effort to becoming one with the environment.
