Cable & Harness: Creation
Connect electrical components manually or via import with wires and cables Automatically creates Inventor geometry Represents physical as well electrical design intent Import a configurable from/to list Link to AutoCAD Electrical Creating wires is easy with Autodesk Inventor Professional. To create a wire, simply specify two electrical points to be connected, and the software automatically adds a wire, creating all the necessary Inventor geometry. As your harness design progresses, the software maintains proper electrical connections as the 3D model changes. You can make sure that the 3D wiring design matches the electrical design from the start. Transfer electrical connectivity using an ASCII from/to list or from AutoCAD® Electrical to Autodesk Inventor Professional with a Wire List file – one of the standard AutoCAD Electrical reports. Establish and maintain electrical connectivity during 3D harness design Autodesk Inventor Professional 10 - Seminar

Cable & Harness: Path Definition
Easily define harness and cable paths Paths update when the 3D model changes Modify as design progresses Visualize harnesses in your 3D model and make the most of intelligent design trade-offs with confidence that there is sufficient room for your electrical system. Define harness and cable paths using a point-and-click method that creates 3D virtual conduits in your model, with points easily added or moved to refine the shape of the harness. With Autodesk Inventor Professional, you can create associative relationships to ensure that your harness automatically updates as design components change. Early visualization of 3D harness ensures adequate space for electrical system Autodesk Inventor Professional 10 - Seminar
7
Cable & Harness: Design
Create a 3D virtual prototype Eliminate reliance on physical prototypes Automatically create manufacturing outputs Today, most companies design their wire harnesses and cable systems by waiting for a hardware prototype and then manually measuring to determine wire lengths. The manual nature of the wiring design process typically results in 2-3 iterations before creating an acceptable harness. This is time consuming and costly. By creating a “Wired Assembly” or 3D virtual prototype in Autodesk Inventor Professional you are able to eliminate your reliance on physical prototypes for estimating wire lengthsn and to automatically creation manufacturing documentation. Ultimately reducing iterations and eliminating human error. Reduce iterations and eliminate human error Autodesk Inventor Professional 10 - Seminar

Cable & Harness: Splices
Connect conductors with new splice object Account for overlap or gaps Create appropriate reports and documentation In some industries, especially transportation, multiple wires are joined together with a slice – this can be a welded or crimped connection or a special part can even be used. The new specialized splice object in AIP enables you to accurately and quickly model splices that are fully intelligent. Now you can connect two or more conductors with a new splice object. Previously you would have had to create a small part to simulate this. Splices exist in free space, on a wire or buried in a segment Splice wires interactively or add wires to splices via the wire list import Account for wire overlap or gaps between spliced wires Feed downstream reports and nailboard documentation Accurately and quickly depict connectivity in harnesses that contain splices Autodesk Inventor Professional 10 - Seminar

Save time and reduce errors by automating piping design
Tube & Pipe: Design Verify form and fit of tubing, piping and flexible hose Replaces tedious, manual processes Automatically adheres to design rules Updates when the model changes Designing rigid Tube & Pipe, flexible hose, and piping systems is no longer a time-consuming chore. Just select a start point, an end point, and any number of intermediate points to define the best route. If you want a more automated approach, let the autorouter offer you suggestions based on minimum length and number of segments. Create and modify piping paths using a rules based router, and watch as changes are associatively updated in your drawing. This allows you to automatically adhere to design rules, such as minimum or maximum length, thus helping enhance quality and increase productivity. And since it is native Inventor data as the model changes the piping will update associatively. Save time and reduce errors by automating piping design Autodesk Inventor Professional 10 - Seminar

Cable & Harness: Wire Length Calculation
Automatic calculation whenever path changes Highly accurate User controlled length compensations Embedded Length Global Slack Round Up Replace the time-consuming process of manually measuring a hardware prototype with a virtual prototype that generates highly accurate wire lengths and updates them as your design changes. Whenever the wire path changes, the length is automatically recalculated. Take control over wire and cable lengths to reduce scrap and manufacturing delays caused by wires that are too long or too short. This feature allows you to • Account for the amount of wire used beyond the point where the wire enters the connector (embedded length) • Globally add extra length to wires and cables based on a percentage of their lengths (global slack) • Round up wire length to the nearest specified unit (nearest half inch or 5 millimeters) to account for the way manufactured wires are cut (round up) Eliminates tedious process of manually measuring a prototype Autodesk Inventor Professional 10 - Seminar
12
Cable & Harness: Bundle Diameter Calculation
Automatic calculation updates when harness changes Accounts for wire and cable diameter and air gaps Enables accurate visualization of harness space requirements Use 3D visual inspection and interference detection tools to accurately determine whether wire bundles will fit your assembly. The software automatically calculates bundle diameters whenever you add or remove wires, even accounting for the air gaps between wires. Know in advance that wire bundles will fit in your designs Autodesk Inventor Professional 10 - Seminar
13
Tube & Pipe: Design Rules
User configurable Minimum segment length Minimum bend radii Maximum length between couplings Matches fittings to appropriate style of pipe, tube or hose Enhance the quality and manufacturability of your designs with tube and pipe runs that automatically adhere to preset standards. Configure design rules and determine minimum segment lengths, bend radii, and maximum length between couplings. You can also specify the appropriate fittings for a given pipe style. Increase quality and manufacturability by ensuring adherence to company standards Autodesk Inventor Professional 10 - Seminar

Stress Analysis: Perform Stress Analysis on Parts
Understand part function Will it deform? How much will it deflect? Is there too much material? Embedded analysis for parts Stress Displacement Frequency Safety factor Save time by removing the guesswork from part design. Examine how your parts perform in the real world. With Autodesk Inventor Professional you can visualize just how much your parts will deform and deflect under realistic operating conditions. Make design decisions based on analysis rather than intuition. Let the simulation assist you in building the optimal part. Visually identify trouble spots that fall below your safety factor requirements and develop alternative solutions for these areas. Stop over-designing parts and start saving money by choosing the best possible material type for the task at hand. Using less material results in a lower cost per part and saves money downstream on shipping, material handling, and warehousing fees Rather than create our own analysis tool, we’ve partnered with Ansys to make this best in class functionality possible. Embedded analysis types include Stress, Displacement, and Safety Factor. Based on user-defined loads and part geometry, Autodesk Inventor Professional will automatically create an FEA Mesh and solve for stress and displacement answering your part performance questions. Create higher quality parts and experience fewer field failures when you perform Stress analysis on parts without ever leaving Inventor. Cable & Harness: Wire Routing
Creates wire bundles Ensures a high degree of user control Manual Routing Interactive Routing Automatic Routing Use automated and manual wire routing options to quickly route thousands of wires while maintaining complete control over the paths of critical wire. Wires are inserted into segments using three routing functions: • Manual routing requires explicit selection of a wire’s path. • Interactive routing requires selecting the start and end points of the routed path to let an algorithm choose the shortest path. • Automatic routing finds the shortest possible path based on all available paths. Quickly route thousands of wires to determine lengths and bundle diameters Autodesk Inventor Professional 10 - Seminar
17
Tube & Pipe: Creating Runs
Converts route paths into physical pipes Adheres to design rules Pulls content directly from the library Updates automatically when design changes Automatically populate piping routes with real parts that adhere to your manufacturing standards. The Populate Route tool turns tube, pipe, and hose routes into physical pipe runs, automatically placing fittings, pipe segments, rigid tubes, and hose as needed. Standard Autodesk Inventor parts are created during this process to make it easy to perform mass property calculations and interference checks. What’s more, couplings are automatically placed when pipes reach their maximum length, and you can specify length cutoff increments. Automatically use parts that adhere to your standards Autodesk Inventor Professional 10 - Seminar

Tube & Pipe: 3D Sketch as Route
Convert a 3D Sketch into a pipe or tube route Edit 3D sketch and route updates Leverage new constraints for 3D sketches Now you can use all or part of an existing 3D sketch to create tube and pipe runs. And when you edit the original 3D sketch the route will update. This functionality leverages improvements to the Autodesk Inventor 3D sketch environment, including enhanced constraints and enables re-use of manually created 3D sketches as tube and pipe paths. It is now faster and easier to make pipes parallel and to constrain them to other geometry. Control tubing and piping paths and create parallel pipe runs more easily Autodesk Inventor Professional 10 - Seminar
