3 Purpose In the section, you will be asked to identify well-constructed sentences. To be able to answer these questions correctly you must be familiar with some of the English language rules. 4 Understanding Grammar
Understanding basic English grammar means knowing these elements: Complete sentences Paragraph Subject-verb agreement Using words correctly Understanding basic English grammar means knowing these elements: 1--Complete sentences--You need to know what a compete sentence sounds like. If you listen well, this will be easy 2--Paragraph--aA paragraph is a group of sentences based around one idea, description or event 3--Subject-Verb agreement--Here you have to use your ears 4--Using words correctly--If you’ve been around English-speakers awhile, this will be easy, too. This skill comes from experience more than anything

5 Complete Sentences A complete sentence has a subject (noun) and a predicate (verb). Example: The boys forgot their books in the library. 6 Paragraph A paragraph is a group of sentences focused on a single idea. Electric cars produce about 80 percent less pollution than cars with gas-powered motors. In fact, the only reason that electric cars produce any pollution at all is that their electric energy is generated by power plants-electric cars themselves emit no exhaust. When energy comes from large sources such as power plants, it’s easier to regulate and monitor, so there’s less waste than if the energy is generated by many smaller sources, such as the gas engines in individual cars. 8 Using Words Correctly Here it is important to understand
different definitions of words. For example: their, they’re and there its/it’s accept/except affect/effect Using Words Correctly Here it is important to understand different definitions of words. For example: --their, they’re and there --its /it’s --accept (as in accepting an award)/ except (as in something--or someone--who is excluded: “Everyone got a present except me.”) --affect/ effect (affect--has to do with emotions--as in “It really affected me” AND effect--has to do with something happening to cause a change--as in: “That medicine will take effect in a couple of hours.”
