2 Components of a fire Fuel: Something that burns Air: Oxygen to keep the fire going Heat: Gas, electricity, etc

3 Methods to put fire out (extinguish) Starving = removing the fuel. Smothering = removing the oxygen. Cooling = removing the heat.

4 Fire procedure Raise the alarm. Call the fire brigade. Turn of gas and electricity supply. Close doors and windows. Leave the building and go to the assembly point.

5 Do not … Put yourself in any danger. Delay raising the alarm. Use any lifts. Stop to collect your belongings.

6 Fire policy Fire safety regulations = Fire safety orders The owner = Responsible person Reduce the risk of the outbreak of fire Reduce the risk of the spread of fire Provide means of escape Show preventative action

7 Requirements Have regular fire drills. Identify how evacuation should take place. Ensure means of escape are available at all times. Provide fire extinguishers. Provide fire training.

8 Fire risk assessment Identify the fire hazards. Identify the people at risk. Evaluate the risks. Record the findings. Review and revise risk assessment. The fire safety orders are enforced by the local fire brigade. However, there are other enforcing agencies e.g. Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
