Dijkstra’s Algorithm MARLEY CANTRELL

About Dijkstra Dutch computer scientist Father was a Chemist, mother was a mathematician Received Turing Award for his works in 1972 Was the Schlumberger Centennial Chair of Computer Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin Created multiple algorithms

Edsger Dijkstra

His Works Shunting Yard Algorithm Multiprogramming system Banker’s Algorithm Semaphore Dijkstra’s Algorithm

Shunting Yard Algorithm Banker’s Algorithm

Most Famous-Dijkstra’s Wrote in about 20 minutes Created on a graph that had a single path problem and nonnegative edge path costs Allowed for one to give any vertex on the graph and the algorithm creates the shortest path to each place on the graph In a computer it creates the shortest path between circuits

How does it affect technology? Creates GPS Allows search engine to find topics Allows apps to work Allows documents and messages to be sent Basically makes technology as we know it today, possible

How does it work? Creates shortest path from one point to another, to the second and third and all the points, and then back to the start.

What’s Changed? First piece of technology was created in the 1800’s and was merely a time punch Second piece of technology was basically an oversized calculator The first actual computer was created 1947 Then cell phones came along in the 1990’s GPS invented Now cell phones, GPS and computers are combined into one

Inside of a GPS… SIMILAR?
