About me Mike Hearn From the UK, married to an American, spent 2 years living in NY Lived in New Zealand 32 years 14 Years as Executive Director of AmCham Ex international banker specialising in assisting importers and exporters Board member of the NZ US Council here in NZ Board member of the US NZ Council in Washington DC Secretariat for OSAC Chairman of New Zealand Robotics Trust Executive Committee member of Canada New Zealand Business Association (23 years) Executive Working Group member of World Mentor

AMCHAM About us Established 1965 as a Bilateral organization with key objectives To promote bilateral trade, investment, tourism and education links with the USA. To represent and express the opinion of the business communities in New Zealand and the USA on questions of trade, commerce, finance, industry, taxation and education Funded by membership subscriptions & revenues from events. No funding from either government. About 300 corporate members split 40/60 between US and NZ – US companies mainly Fortune 500 names. Approx. 350 US companies operating in NZ. Regarded as the “Voice of US business in NZ”. Annual survey of US companies operating in NZ.

AMCHAM About us We are a member of the US Chamber of Commerce which represents over 3,000,000, businesses, 2,800 state and local chambers, 830 business associations & 115 American Chambers of Commerce in 102 countries. We are part of the Asia Pacific Council of American Chambers of Commerce (27 AmChams in 21 Economies). We take part in the APCAC annual Washington Doorknocks to lobby Congress and the Administration on issues facing business and US citizens in the region Recently attended the US Secretary of States Global Summit of U.S. business support organizations in Washington, DC

We lobby both Governments on key business issues and are actively involved in promoting a US-NZ Free Trade Agreement/TPP We work closely with US Foreign Commercial Service helping US investors &exporters sell into NZ & NZ companies importing US goods and services New Zealand Trade & Enterprise helping NZ investors & exporters do business in the USA NZ Embassy & Hon Consuls throughout the US US Embassy in Wellington We have a database of just under 9,000 importers, exporters & key service providers in both countries.

Annual AmCham –DHL Express Success & Innovation Awards In 2000 we introduced an Annual Awards ceremony to celebrate success and innovation in trading and business relationships with the USA. Over the last twelve years our sponsors have provided over $300,000 of prizes to our award winners. Companies apply for these awards. Working with Sister Cities Send regular monthly newsletters to US & NZ Sister Cities Work with Sister Cities economic development agencies on referrals for companies and individuals looking to invest and/or relocate. Make companies & individuals aware of Sister City relationships as a tool to use when relocating or investing. Conduit for advising business community of developments in Sister City relationships.
